Ekiti Approves N18.5bn for Roads, Power, Water, Tourism Projects

The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved over ₦18.5 billion for a broad range of infrastructure and development projects, including road rehabilitation, water supply, electricity, and tourism enhancement across the state.

Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement on Thursday, said the approvals were made during a virtual council meeting held on Wednesday.

The largest allocation—₦10.1 billion—was earmarked for the rehabilitation of 11.4km and reconstruction of 6km of the Ita Ido–Ido Ile–Okemesi–Ikoro Road.

The road upgrade is expected to alleviate transportation challenges, stimulate economic activity in the axis, and enhance local security.

Additionally, ₦1.1 billion was approved for the construction of an access road to the multipurpose building at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, aimed at improving healthcare access.

In a push to boost tourism, the council awarded a ₦1.83 billion contract to Rutnael Project Limited for the complete remodelling of the Adekunle Fajuyi Memorial Park into an international-standard heritage site.

For water supply, ₦1.5 billion was approved for the construction of the Odo Oja Water Scheme in Ikere Ekiti. The project, to be handled by Jadfem Nigeria Limited, falls under the World Bank-supported Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (SURWASH) programme and is expected to be completed within 10 months.

The council also approved ₦2.18 billion for expansion works at the Arts and Cultural Centre located in the Waterworks area of Ado Ekiti, part of a larger plan to support job creation for creative youth in the state.

A further ₦515.9 million was approved for the reconstruction of the collapsed culvert near Adekaitan Filling Station on Ilawe Road in Ado Ekiti, targeting improved access and road safety.

Olatunbosun also disclosed that ₦998.2 million was allocated for electricity projects.

These include the installation of solar-powered streetlights, provision of transformers, rehabilitation of the power network, and deployment of modular solar-powered irrigation systems in various communities.

He emphasized that the investments demonstrate Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to inclusive development and improving living conditions across the state.
