South-East Under Siege: IPOB Lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor Decries Killings in Imo, Calls for Urgent Security Measures

‎Human rights lawyer and lead counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has condemned the escalating violence in the South-East, urging Igbos to rise against the killings and moral erosion threatening the region.

‎Ejiofor’s outcry follows the gruesome killings in three communities in Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, where gunmen reportedly murdered at least seven persons on Friday.

The attackers, riding on motorbikes, stormed Umualoma, Ndiakunwanta, and Ndiejezie villages, leaving a trail of bloodshed and several critically injured victims.

‎In a strongly worded statement released in Awka on Monday, Ejiofor lamented the continued decline in the value of human life in the region, describing the killings as part of a “systematic war” on the people.

‎“This morning, I write with a heart shattered by grief and burning with rage. Our homeland is descending into the abyss of horror and moral collapse,” he said. “This is not just another act of violence. It is genocide unfolding in real time. Our brothers and sisters were reduced to statistics lifeless, silent, and abandoned.”

‎Ejiofor referenced a viral video allegedly showing the aftermath of the attack, describing it as too gruesome to share but a haunting reminder of the region’s deteriorating security.

‎He challenged leaders at all levels local, state, and federal to rise above partisanship and fear to establish a robust security architecture that respects human rights and restores peace.

‎“Where is the government of Imo State?” he questioned. “Has governance been replaced by brute force and silence?”

‎Ejiofor said the latest violence mirrored the scale of loss last seen during the Biafran War. “But that was a declared war. What we face now is undeclared systematic and silent.”

‎He emphasized that a society where life has no value is no longer a society but a jungle. “Today, our beloved Alaigbo is a wasteland of shattered dreams and unburied corpses,” he added.

‎The lawyer called for accountability and justice, warning that continued silence in the face of killings would amount to complicity.

‎“We demand answers. We demand justice. Enough is enough. Let Alaigbo rise. Let the killings stop. Let healing begin before it’s too late.”

‎Ejiofor’s statement ends with a solemn prayer for the repose of the victims’ souls and a call for urgent action to redeem the land.
