Luis Diaz Joins Bayern Munich for €75M, Eyes Fresh Glory After Liverpool Exit

Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich have officially secured the signature of Colombian winger, Luis Diaz from Liverpool in a high-profile transfer that could rise to €75 million ($86.5 million), making it the third most expensive signing in the club’s history.

The 28-year-old, who enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Anfield — lifting the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups — signed a long-term deal that will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2029.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen hailed the acquisition, calling Diaz “one of the best left-wingers in the Premier League.” He added, “He brings real winning experience from Liverpool to Bayern — a player who has collected silverware everywhere he’s played.”

Diaz, visibly excited about the move, said joining Bayern was a dream come true. “It means a lot to be part of one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he said. “My goal is to win every possible title, and that’s what we’ll work toward every day.”

The winger’s arrival comes at a critical time for the German champions, who are dealing with a series of key departures and injuries. Diaz is expected to fill the void left by Jamal Musiala, who suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle at the Club World Cup and is expected to be sidelined long-term.

The club also recently parted ways with veteran forward Thomas Müller and saw Leroy Sane complete a move to Galatasaray.

Diaz’s final season at Liverpool was prolific — he notched 17 goals and 8 assists across 50 appearances under manager Arne Slot.

His 13 Premier League goals made him the club’s second-highest scorer behind Mohamed Salah.

Although he missed Liverpool’s 4-2 friendly loss to AC Milan in Hong Kong amid growing transfer rumors, Diaz bid a heartfelt farewell to Reds fans via social media, saying he would “treasure forever” his time at the club and leave “proud of everything we achieved together.”

Diaz joins Bayern’s training session under new coach Vincent Kompany on Wednesday and could make his debut this Saturday in a friendly against Lyon in Munich.

Since making his international debut in 2018, Diaz has scored 18 goals in 64 appearances for Colombia. He previously played for Porto, where he caught the attention of top European clubs with his blistering pace and creativity.

The deal trails only Bayern’s record €95 million signing of Harry Kane in 2023 and the €80 million spent on Lucas Hernandez in 2019.
