Ex-Deputy Governor Oko Chukwu Explains Visit to Governor Otti

Former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, has explained the motive behind his recent visit to Governor Alex Otti, describing it as a demonstration of support for the ongoing developmental efforts of the state government. Oko Chukwu, who served under former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, stated that his visit was neither political nor partisan, but rooted in a shared commitment to the progress and stability of Abia State.

Speaking after joining Governor Otti on an inspection tour of road infrastructure projects in Aba, the former deputy governor expressed admiration for the quality and scope of the work being carried out by the current administration. He emphasized that governance should transcend political affiliations, and that all well-meaning Abians must rally behind any leader who shows dedication to improving the lives of the people.

“We came to see things for ourselves. We have gone round and seen the quality of roads being built. It is quite impressive,” Oko Chukwu said. “Abia belongs to all of us, and when you see something good, you acknowledge it. That is the spirit with which we visited Governor Otti.”

The visit, which included other former Speakers of the Abia State House of Assembly, sparked discussions about shifting political alignments in the state. Many observers viewed the show of solidarity as a sign that key figures from previous administrations may be warming up to the current government, despite past political rivalries.

Governor Alex Otti welcomed the delegation warmly, noting that the gesture reaffirmed the importance of unity in governance. He praised the former leaders for putting the interest of the state above politics and called for continued collaboration among all stakeholders, regardless of party lines.

Oko Chukwu, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reiterated that his actions were not driven by political defection or aspirations but by a genuine desire to see Abia develop under effective leadership. “It is about the people of Abia, not politics. Good governance should be encouraged, no matter who is at the helm,” he said.

The visit has been widely commended across political and civil society circles, with many noting that such bipartisan gestures are critical to fostering inclusive development and long-term peace in the state.
