Zamfara Governor Appoints Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as 16th Emir of Gusau

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the new Emir and Sarkin Katsina of Gusau Emirate.

The announcement was made public by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada, who disclosed that the appointment followed the recommendation of the traditional kingmakers of the Gusau Emirate, in line with established customs and legal frameworks governing traditional institutions in the state.

Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello succeeds his late father, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the 15th Emir of Gusau, who passed away on July 25, 2025, after a decade-long reign on the throne. The new Emir, who held the traditional title of Bunun Gusau prior to his appointment, now becomes the 16th ruler of the historic emirate.

Governor Lawal, in his congratulatory message to the new Emir, described the appointment as a continuation of a revered lineage and called on the new monarch to sustain the noble legacy left behind by his late father and forebears.

“As a direct descendant of Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, the foundation of your leadership must be built on the pillars of integrity, service, and unity,” the governor said. “I urge you to be a symbol of peace, justice, and development, not just for the Gusau Emirate but for the entire state.”

The governor further expressed confidence that the new Emir would use his position to foster harmonious coexistence among the diverse communities within the Emirate and contribute to the socio-economic progress of the region.

The Gusau Emirate Council, one of the most prominent traditional institutions in Zamfara State, plays a significant role in preserving cultural heritage and promoting grassroots governance. The enthronement of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello is expected to usher in a new chapter for the Emirate in both tradition and modern community leadership.
