North Will Back Tinubu in 2027 for Fulfilling Promises — Gombe Governor Inuwa Yahaya

The Governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has declared that the northern region will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing the administration’s progress in delivering on key campaign promises made to the region.

Yahaya made the declaration on Monday while speaking at the opening ceremony of a two-day interactive session on government-citizen engagement, organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF), held at Arewa House in Kaduna.

The session, themed “Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizen Engagement for National Unity,” drew policymakers, stakeholders, and civil society actors to examine the performance of the Tinubu administration, especially in relation to its electoral commitments.

Representatives of the President at the event included the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Governor Yahaya stated that the north’s decisive support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election was a calculated and strategic political move one that is already paying dividends in areas such as infrastructure development, energy access, agricultural reform, and security improvements.

“When candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu stood before us during the 2023 campaign, he made specific commitments to Northern Nigeria. The north, believing in President Tinubu’s vision, voted strongly for him, contributing to over 60% of Tinubu’s winning votes,” Yahaya noted.

He stressed that the gathering was not a platform for “empty rhetoric” but an opportunity for sincere introspection on the government’s progress.

“Today’s event is about measuring promises against performance. It is not about sentiments but substance. We must give credit where it is due,” he added.

Governor Yahaya further urged continued collaboration between citizens and leaders to sustain national unity and accelerate development, emphasizing the importance of engaging communities in holding leaders accountable.

The remarks come amid ongoing debates about the performance of the Tinubu-led administration, especially in light of Nigeria’s economic challenges and rising living costs. However, the Gombe governor’s statement signals a strong regional endorsement that could shape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
