Governor Lawal Appoints Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as New Emir of Gusau
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has officially approved the appointment of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the new Emir and Sarkin Katsina of the Gusau Emirate.
The appointment follows the passing of his father, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Bello, who died on July 25, 2025, after a decade of distinguished leadership.
Alhaji Abdulkadir now becomes the 16th Emir of the historic Gusau Emirate, a traditional institution that holds deep cultural and political significance within the state and the wider northern region.
The Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, announced the new appointment on behalf of the state government.
He noted that the decision was made in strict accordance with the established customs of the emirate, as well as the provisions of relevant laws guiding the selection and installation of traditional rulers in the state.
According to Nakwada, the choice of Alhaji Abdulkadir was based on the recommendation of the Gusau Emirate’s traditional kingmakers, who conducted the selection process following the due customary procedures.
“The Zamfara State Government has accepted the recommendation of the kingmakers of the Gusau Emirate for the appointment of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the new Emir of Gusau,” the statement read.
“This appointment has been made in recognition of his suitability, character, and commitment to the traditions and development of the emirate.”
The late Emir, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Bello, passed away after serving the emirate and the state with dignity, wisdom, and dedication for over ten years. His leadership was marked by efforts to preserve traditional values while promoting peace, unity, and development across his domain.
Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello, the newly appointed emir, is expected to build on his father’s legacy and provide guidance to the people of Gusau during these critical times. His ascension to the throne is being widely received with optimism by residents of the emirate, who anticipate a smooth transition and continuity of leadership.
A formal turbaning ceremony is expected to be announced soon by the Emirate Council.
The Gusau Emirate, located in the heart of Zamfara State, plays a key role in the state’s socio-cultural and political landscape. The emir’s position carries not only ceremonial duties but also influential advisory roles in governance, security, and community cohesion.
