Tinubu Rewards Super Falcons with $100K, National Honours After WAFCON Triumph

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rewarded the Super Falcons with a generous package of cash prizes, housing, and national honours following their triumphant performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
During a presidential reception at the Presidential villa, Tinubu announced that each member of the championship-winning squad would receive $100,000, a three-bedroom apartment, and the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The President praised the Super Falcons for their resilience, unity, and dedication, which he said served as a symbol of national pride and unity across Nigeria. “You demonstrated the true spirit of Nigeria fearless, passionate, and determined,” he said.
In addition to the players’ rewards, each member of the technical crew will receive a $50,000 cash bonus for their pivotal role in the team’s success. The Nigerian Governors’ Forum also contributed an extra ₦10 million to the players as a gesture of collective appreciation.
The rewards come in recognition of Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title, after defeating Morocco 3–2 in a thrilling final.
The reception was attended by top government officials, sports administrators, and members of the diplomatic corps, with the President assuring continued support for women’s football and sports development in Nigeria.
This marks one of the most substantial reward packages ever given to a Nigerian women’s team, underlining the administration’s commitment to celebrating excellence and promoting gender equality in sports.
