Former NAFDAC DG, Paul Orhii, Dumps PDP for ADC

Former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Orhii, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring his intention to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Orhii, a two-time governorship aspirant under the PDP platform in Benue State during the 2019 and 2023 general elections, made his resignation public through a letter addressed to the Chairman of Atirkyese Council Ward in Ushongo Local Government Area of the state.

In the letter, Orhii attributed his decision to “intensive consultations” with his family, friends, supporters, and political associates across the country and abroad.

“After intensive consultations with my family, friends, thousands of my supporters and political associates locally, nationally, and globally, I have decided to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” the letter read.
Dr. Orhii further stated that his move to the ADC aligns with his commitment to what he described as a “rescue mission” aimed at addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

“This is to enable me join the coalition of other progressive-minded Nigerians in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on the rescue mission,” he said.
While parting ways with the PDP, Orhii expressed deep appreciation for the opportunities the party afforded him, including his appointment as NAFDAC DG and the platform to contest for the governorship of Benue State.

“I truly remain eternally grateful to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that gave me the opportunity to serve my country Nigeria at the highest level,” he added.
Orhii’s defection adds to the growing list of high-profile politicians shifting allegiance ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition parties ramp up efforts to reposition themselves in the nation’s political landscape.
