Buhari’s Family Returns to Kaduna 12 Days After Former President’s Burial
Twelve days after the burial of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, his immediate family has returned to Kaduna from Daura, Katsina State, where the late statesman was laid to rest.
The former First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, accompanied by her son Yusuf Buhari and other close family members, arrived at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna on Sunday, marking their first public appearance since the solemn funeral rites in Daura.
They were received by the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who led a delegation of senior government officials to welcome the Buhari family. Among those present was the Majority Leader of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Munira Tanimu, alongside commissioners and other dignitaries.
The arrival of the family drew quiet attention as supporters, sympathizers, and security personnel gathered at the airbase to witness the return of the former first family. Security was visibly heightened to ensure a smooth and orderly welcome.
Mrs. Buhari, who was visibly solemn, exchanged brief pleasantries with government officials and acknowledged the support and prayers of Nigerians throughout the mourning period.
The return to Kaduna is seen as part of the family’s transition into private life following the end of an era marked by President Buhari’s eight years in office from 2015 to 2023.
President Muhammadu Buhari passed away in Daura after a period of illness, with his burial conducted according to Islamic rites in his hometown. Since then, tributes have poured in from across the nation and beyond, reflecting his towering presence in Nigeria’s political history.
The Buhari family is expected to continue receiving condolence visits in Kaduna in the coming days as prominent Nigerians, traditional leaders, political allies, and members of the public continue to pay their respects.
The late president is remembered for his leadership, military background, anti-corruption stance, and enduring influence on Nigerian politics spanning several decades.
