Tinubu Hails Super Falcons’ WAFCON Victory, Praises Team’s Resilience

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their thrilling 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), a win that secured the nation’s record-extending 10th continental title.

In a statement released on Saturday night through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the team’s courage and resilience, describing their performance as emblematic of the enduring Nigerian spirit.

“The Super Falcons’ spectacular performance tonight in Rabat, coming from behind to beat a spirited Moroccan side playing in front of a passionate home crowd, exemplifies the determination that defines the Nigerian spirit,” President Tinubu said.

The Nigerian side, trailing 2-0 at halftime, mounted a remarkable second-half comeback, with goals from Chinwendu Okoronkwo, Ijamilusi Folashade, and a late winner from Jennifer Echegini securing the title in dramatic fashion.

“With hard work, dedication, and tenacity, you have achieved the mission the nation dreamed of and prayed for,” Tinubu added. “The nation looks forward to welcoming our champions. Congratulations! Nigeria celebrates you.”

The victory marks a significant milestone for the Super Falcons, reinforcing their dominance in African women’s football and capping a tournament that saw them outplay some of the continent’s best teams.

President Tinubu’s message adds to the wave of national pride and celebration across the country as Nigerians bask in the glory of their team’s triumphant return to the top of African women’s football.
