Governor Yusuf Orders Investigation Into Kano Transport Commissioner Over Drug Suspect Bail

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the alleged involvement of the state’s Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Namadi, in the bail process of a suspected drug trafficker. The directive followed reports that the commissioner stood as surety for Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu, who is facing trial before a Federal High Court in Kano over serious drug-related charges brought by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The move sparked public outrage and raised questions about the ethical conduct of the commissioner. Although Namadi later withdrew his suretyship, Governor Yusuf described the development as disturbing and directed a comprehensive inquiry to determine the facts surrounding the matter. A seven-member panel has been constituted to carry out the investigation, chaired by the governor’s Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters, Barrister Aminu Hussain. Other members include Barr. Hamza Haladu, Barr. Hamza Nuhu Dantani, Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar, Major General Sani Muhammad (Rtd), Comrade Kabiru Said Dakata, and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, who will serve as secretary. The panel has been mandated to examine the commissioner’s conduct, assess whether it violated any laws or administrative codes, and recommend appropriate action. Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance policy on drug abuse and any conduct capable of undermining the integrity of public office. He stated that all public officials would be held accountable for their actions, adding that the probe would be thorough and transparent. The outcome of the investigation is expected to guide further decisions on the commissioner’s status in government.
