Governor Bala Mohammed Moves to Restore Peace in Darazo After Farmer-Herder Clashes

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has vowed to take decisive action to restore peace in Darazo Local Government Area following a recent outbreak of violence between farmers and herders in the region.

The governor made the commitment on Sunday during a meeting with affected residents, security agencies, traditional rulers, and other community stakeholders. The dialogue, held in one of the conflict-hit communities, was part of the state government’s intervention efforts to address the rising tension.

Governor Mohammed condemned the violence and appealed for calm from all sides, urging the communities to embrace dialogue and tolerance. He acknowledged the underlying complexity of the conflict, largely driven by disputes over land use between farmers and herders.

“We need to come together and appreciate each other,” the governor said. “We will work with all leaders, including the district heads and community leaders, to find a lasting solution to this problem.”

To prevent further clashes, the governor announced the formation of a special committee made up of land officers tasked with overseeing land allocation. The committee will ensure that both farmers and herders are treated fairly and that their rights to land use are respected.

“We will not tolerate any breakdown of law and order,” Mohammed stressed. “We will take decisive action to reverse any situation that threatens peace in our state.”

The recent violence in Darazo has resulted in multiple injuries and heightened tensions between the farming and herding communities. At the core of the conflict is competition for land farmers are accused of encroaching on grazing routes, while herders claim their traditional grazing fields are shrinking due to increasing agricultural activities.

Governor Mohammed’s intervention is aimed at de-escalating the situation through mediation and structural reforms in land management. His administration has reiterated its commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence and ensuring the security and welfare of all residents in Bauchi State.

Local leaders at the meeting expressed appreciation for the governor’s prompt response and pledged to support efforts aimed at achieving long-term peace in the area.
