AAUA Students Protest Alleged Murder of Fellow Student

Students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, have taken to the streets to protest the alleged murder of one of their students.

The protest follows the recent killing of two other students, which occurred just a few weeks ago.

The students alleged that Joy Adeyemi, a student of the Department of Human Kinetics, was murdered by her boyfriend, an indigene of the town, on Tuesday. The suspect reportedly fled with money from Adeyemi’s Point of Sale (POS) business.

The protesters, carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, demanded action from the state government to address the insecurity in the community.

They expressed concern that the recent incidents could lead to a serious crisis if not addressed.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee has condemned the killings and given the Ondo State Government and security agencies a 24-hour ultimatum to apprehend the perpetrators and implement robust security measures. Failure to comply may result in a massive peaceful protest.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and stated that three suspects have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects.

The university’s Head of Media and Protocols, Mr. Victor Akinpelumi, has appealed to the students to allow the police to conduct a thorough investigation and not take the law into their own hands.
