2025: Soludo Dismisses Opposition, Says Only Fundraisers Are Contesting Against Him

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has declared that he faces no real opposition in the upcoming November 8, 2025 governorship election, describing other contenders as “fundraisers in disguise.”
Speaking at a stakeholders’ endorsement rally in Awka on Saturday, organised by political leaders from Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, Soludo claimed his so-called challengers were merely leveraging the election period to seek donations from high-ranking politicians.
“They are not contesting; they are only doing fundraising. I hear they’ve been going around begging top politicians and ministers for support, claiming to be in the race,” Soludo said, dismissing the opposition’s credibility.
He emphasised that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), remains deeply rooted in Anambra’s political identity. “We have not even started campaigning. APGA is Anambra, and Anambra is APGA,” he added.
Highlighting the zoning arrangement that has shaped Anambra’s politics since the tenure of Peter Obi, Soludo argued that his re-election would preserve political equity.
“Power started from Central, moved to North, then South where I come from. After my second term, it will rotate back to Central. Anyone from the South contesting now wants to hijack power for 12 years,” he warned.
The governor also announced that he has officially moved into the newly completed Anambra Light House City (Government House), signalling a new phase of governance.
Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, and other stakeholders including students, market leaders, and traditional rulers also pledged their support at the event. Chidoka praised Soludo’s achievements in infrastructure, digital governance, and financial discipline.
“In 2025, the question is no longer ‘Is it broken?’ It’s ‘Why drop the spoon when the soup is tasty?’ Ndi Anambra, the pot is still on the fire,” Chidoka says
The rally concluded with the reading of a formal communiqué by Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, Chukwuma Okoye, affirming a consensus endorsement of Soludo as APGA’s sole candidate for the upcoming election.
