President Tinubu Mourns Emir of Gusau, Dr Ibrahim Bello, Describes His Death as a National Loss

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Emir of Gusau, Dr Ibrahim Bello, who passed away in Abuja on Friday morning at the age of 71.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the passing of the traditional ruler as a “collective loss,” not only to the Gusau Emirate but to the nation at large.

“President Tinubu described the traditional ruler’s death as a collective loss beyond his immediate domain, citing his lifelong service at different levels,” the statement read.

The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Zamfara State, as well as to the bereaved family of the late Emir. He prayed for Allah’s mercy on the soul of the monarch and for strength and comfort for those he left behind.

Dr Ibrahim Bello, the 16th Emir of Gusau, ascended the throne following the death of his father on March 16, 2015. Before his appointment as Emir, he served as a respected civil servant, rising through the ranks to become a Permanent Secretary in both the old Sokoto State and later in Zamfara State.

Bello’s leadership, which spanned more than a decade, was marked by his dedication to public service and commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of his people.

The news of his passing was confirmed by Sulaiman Idris, spokesperson for Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, who noted that the state government received the news with profound sadness.

As tributes continue to pour in from across the country, the late Emir is being remembered as a symbol of dignity, wisdom, and service who left an indelible mark on traditional leadership in northern Nigeria.
