Opposition Politicians Joining APC Because It Is Well Organised, Boasts Lanre Adebayo

The Director General of The Progressives Institute, Lanre Adebayo, has attributed the defection of several opposition politicians to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party’s strong internal organisation and structure. Speaking on Friday during an interview on Morning Brief on Channels Television, Adebayo downplayed ongoing speculations surrounding the 2027 general elections, particularly discussions about the vice-presidential ticket, describing them as premature and a distraction from governance. “The idea of 2027, as appealing as it may be, is not a matter of immediate concern. The president and his administration are currently focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the Nigerian people,” he said. He stressed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to tackling key national issues, especially poverty and economic challenges, noting that the country’s economy was in poor shape before the current administration took office. Adebayo maintained that Vice President Kashim Shettima is working in harmony with the president and dismissed rumours of any potential shake-up in the leadership structure. “There is understanding and unity between the president and the vice president. It is mostly political analysts and some in the media pushing these suggestions. These discussions are unnecessary at this stage,” he said. He called on Nigerians to concentrate on governance rather than engage in early political speculation, insisting that such conversations only detract from the administration’s efforts to meet the needs of the people.
