Bariga LCDA Set to Unveil Landmark Projects as Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu Expected Today

Anticipation is high in Lagos today as the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) prepares to host a major projects commissioning ceremony, showcasing one of the largest grassroots development efforts by a local council in recent years. The event, set to take place at the Bariga LCDA Secretariat by 10:00 AM, will see the official unveiling of several completed projects spanning transportation, healthcare, education, and emergency services.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu are expected to attend the commissioning as Special Guests of Honour. The Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Alabi Kolade David, will lead the proceedings.
According to official announcements, the projects lined up for commissioning include 21 newly constructed and rehabilitated roads, five primary health centres (PHCs), three newly built primary schools, and one modern fire station. These projects are part of a broad infrastructure and social investment agenda championed by the council to uplift living standards and improve service delivery at the community level.
The commissioning ceremony is being hailed as a symbol of effective grassroots governance and intergovernmental collaboration. Hon. Kolade Alabi, who has served as Chairman of Bariga LCDA for multiple terms, is known for prioritizing strategic capital projects and expanding access to education and healthcare within the council area. “This isn’t just about infrastructure; it’s about dignity, opportunity, and responsive governance,” Alabi said in an earlier statement previewing today’s event. “We’re proud to say these projects were initiated, executed, and completed for the benefit of the people.”
Today’s commissioning builds on an earlier wave of infrastructural achievements in the area. In January 2025, Governor Sanwo-Olu formally inaugurated a 4.7-kilometre dual carriageway stretching across Bariga, Akoka, and Gbagada, as well as health and educational facilities. That event set the tone for continued investment in Bariga and reinforced the state’s partnership with local governments. Observers see today’s event as a key moment not just for Bariga LCDA, but for the future of decentralised development in Lagos State.
As of the time of reporting, the event is set to take place later this morning. While media coverage and official statements are expected post-commissioning, early indicators suggest a strong turnout and high-level endorsement of the projects.
