Nigeria Mulls Formula 1 Grand Prix Hosting Rights

Nigeria is set to bid for the Formula 1 Grand Prix hosting rights, with the National Sports Commission declaring the country’s interest in staging the prestigious event. The bid is being led by Opus Racing Promotions, which has been appointed as the official representative for the bid.
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has extended invitations to key stakeholders, including Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, and Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, to visit Nigeria and explore the possibility of hosting the Grand Prix in Abuja.
Hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Nigeria is expected to have a significant impact on the country’s economy, infrastructure, and tourism industry.
The event would not only boost national pride but also attract private investment, create economic opportunities, and jobs.
If successful, Nigeria would become the first African country to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix since South Africa in 1993.
However, the country faces stiff competition from other African nations, including South Africa and Rwanda, which are also in talks to stage the event.
The bid to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Nigeria is a significant step towards promoting sports development and economic growth in the country. With the right infrastructure and support, Nigeria could potentially host a successful Grand Prix event that would put the country on the global sporting map.
