Governor Abiodun Inducts 550 New Amotekun Operatives, Reiterates Commitment to Community Policing

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has inducted 550 newly recruited operatives of the Ogun State Amotekun Corps, charging them to embrace professionalism, discipline, and a commitment to the ideals of community policing. The ceremony, held in Abeokuta, marked a key step in the state government’s effort to strengthen local security and deepen grassroots policing across the state. Governor Abiodun, while addressing the new operatives, urged them to uphold the core values of integrity, accountability, and public trust. He warned against any form of misconduct or abuse of power, noting that the uniform must not be used as a tool of oppression. “You have been called to serve, not to oppress. You are ambassadors of safety in our communities, and your conduct will either earn you respect or condemn you. Let the uniform you wear be a symbol of responsibility, not terror,” the governor said. As part of the inauguration, the governor also donated 16 new operational vehicles to the corps to aid mobility and enhance rapid response to security threats. He reaffirmed his administration’s continued investment in the Amotekun Corps, describing it as a critical component of Ogun’s evolving security strategy. In addition to the newly inducted operatives, Governor Abiodun said the government had earlier approved the recruitment of 1,000 more personnel this year as part of a phased expansion plan to ensure adequate coverage across all 20 local government areas of the state. Commander of the Ogun Amotekun Corps, Brigadier-General Adetunji Alade (Rtd), commended the state government for its unwavering support. He noted that the operatives underwent intensive training in intelligence gathering, emergency response, and collaboration with other security agencies. He assured residents that the corps is now better equipped to support formal security structures and safeguard communities. Governor Abiodun reiterated that any operative found guilty of misconduct or violating citizens’ rights would face strict disciplinary action. “We will not tolerate any action that will tarnish the image of this administration or undermine the trust reposed in the Amotekun Corps by the good people of Ogun State,” he warned. The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, traditional rulers, security agency representatives, and community leaders who commended the governor’s proactive approach to state security. The Amotekun Corps, established as part of the South-West regional security initiative, continues to play a vital role in addressing insecurity and enhancing public safety in Ogun State.
