Eastern Rail Line Project Set to Unleash $50 Billion Investment in South-East, Says Kalu

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honorable Benjamin Kalu, announced on Thursday that the Eastern Rail Line is anticipated to unlock approximately ₦50 billion in annual trade, connecting the commercial centers of Aba and Onitsha to markets in the northern region.
In a statement released to Parliamentary Correspondents, Honorable Kalu lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for earmarking $3 billion for the completion of the Eastern Rail Line.
It is noteworthy that the House of Representatives, during its plenary session on Wednesday, sanctioned the President’s proposal for financing the project.
The undertaking is viewed as a crucial element in the government’s strategy to propel economic advancement and enhance the quality of life for citizens in the South-East and throughout Nigeria.
Honorable Kalu characterized the Eastern Rail Line as a pivotal infrastructure initiative designed to stimulate economic growth and bolster regional connectivity.
He asserted that through this initiative, the President has exemplified the proactive nature of his Renewed Hope Agenda, illustrating a resolute commitment to unlocking the economic promise of the South-East.
The Deputy Speaker assured the President that the Igbo community would reciprocate his benevolence at an opportune moment, reflecting the region’s profound gratitude for his endeavors to promote growth and prosperity in the South-East.
He stated:
“I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and dedication to the advancement of the South-East region.
He has once again displayed his affection for the people of the South-East by undertaking this audacious move to finalize the Eastern Rail Line, which is anticipated to bolster Nigeria’s non-oil exports and overall economic expansion.
The rail line is projected to unlock approximately ₦50 billion in annual trade, linking the Aba and Onitsha hubs to markets in the northern region.
We cannot overemphasize our immense gratitude to the President for this initiative to enhance infrastructure in the South-East.
