Senior Lawyer Criticizes Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Actions

A senior lawyer, Ken Harries, has condemned suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s attempt to enforce a court judgment she has already appealed to. Harries described her actions as an attempt to “eat her cake and still have it,” questioning the logic of enforcing a judgment while simultaneously challenging its validity.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s presence at the National Assembly, accompanied by a group of partisans, sparked controversy. Harries argued that her actions created a crisis atmosphere and were not in line with proper legal procedures for enforcing court judgments.
The lawyer pointed out that Akpoti-Uduaghan had filed an appeal against the judgment, asking the Court of Appeal to overturn it. Harries questioned how she could seek to enforce a judgment she had openly rejected and appealed against. He also noted that Akpoti-Uduaghan had not complied with all the orders contained in the judgment, including paying N5 million and publishing a public apology.
Harries urged Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team to advise her on upholding the rule of law, emphasizing that “anyone who seeks equity must come with clean hands.” He criticized her conduct, terming it “taking the law into her own hands,” and questioned whether this was an appropriate or lawful way to enforce a court ruling.
