Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo Visits Nigeria, Says to Decide on super Eagles Soon

Chelsea defender, Tosin Adarabioyo has confirmed he is seriously considering switching international allegiance to Nigeria, revealing that a final decision on whether to represent the Super Eagles will be made in the near future.

The English-born centre-back made the remark during an exclusive interview on Arise News on Tuesday morning, as he visited Nigeria for the first time.

Speaking from Lagos, Adarabioyo described the emotional connection he felt upon arriving in Nigeria. “As soon as you touch down and step off the plane, you automatically feel that calmness, that you’re at home,” he said. “It felt very special. It’s my first time in Nigeria, so it’s been a very nice time—warm welcome from everybody as soon as I landed. I’m experiencing everything for the first time here with my family, with my two brothers.”

The 26-year-old, who recently joined Chelsea and played a key role in the team’s UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs, said his national team future is currently under consideration. Although he has previously represented England at youth levels, Adarabioyo has long been courted by Nigeria’s football authorities to play for the Super Eagles.

“It’s something I still think about,” he said when asked about a potential Super Eagles switch. “We’ll see in the near future, hopefully, and I’ll start to make a decision. It’s just something that has obviously been a topic for many years now since I’ve become a professional footballer. But again, like I said, we’ll see.”

The Chelsea star also reflected on his move to Stamford Bridge and the expectations that come with wearing the club’s iconic blue shirt. “When you sign for Chelsea, automatically you know this club is there to win everything,” he said. “You go to the training ground, you see pictures of all the different trophies… You know that this year we have to win something.”

Adarabioyo highlighted Chelsea’s achievements this past season, including the UEFA Conference League title and the newly expanded Club World Cup, where Chelsea emerged as champions. “We’re now there in history on the walls. We’ve created history this year with the Club World Cup being the first of its type to win it,” he said.

While in Lagos, Adarabioyo is also giving back to the community. He announced a youth football tournament scheduled for later in the day, inviting fans and aspiring footballers to attend. “Today at the stadium, we’re holding a youth tournament at 4 pm. If anyone can be there, that would be fantastic. I’d love to meet all the fans and all the children there today,” he added.

As speculation continues over his international future, Adarabioyo’s presence in Nigeria—and his heartfelt remarks—have further fueled hopes that he may soon commit to the Super Eagles. For Nigerian football fans, his potential inclusion would be a significant boost ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the next Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
