Amaechi Storms Rivers as ADC Leader, Vows to Strengthen Party

Former Minister of Transportation and former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, arrived in Port Harcourt as a newly embraced leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring his commitment to strengthening the party and repositioning it ahead of the 2027 general elections. Amaechi was welcomed by a massive crowd of supporters at the Port Harcourt International Airport in Omagwa despite heavy rainfall. Party loyalists, drummers, and dancers had gathered from as early as 8 a.m., and erupted in celebration upon his arrival around noon. Addressing his supporters, Amaechi confirmed that he had received the ADC flag and symbol, signifying his formal alignment with the party. He declared that the ADC is now firmly rooted in Rivers State and ready to provide a viable alternative to the dominant parties. “I have come home to begin a new journey with the African Democratic Congress. We are here to stay, and we are here to build. The ADC will not only be strong in Rivers but will provide the people with a credible, transparent, and accountable option come 2027,” he said. Amaechi also took a swipe at past electoral practices in the state, particularly the manipulation of results, and pledged to ensure that such irregularities are not repeated. “No one will be allowed to write election results in this state again. The people must decide their leaders through the ballot, not through fraud,” he stated. His defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC has already begun to stir the political waters in Rivers, with observers predicting further defections and realignments in the coming months. Amaechi, who once led the APC to major victories in the South-South, is expected to energize the ADC's base and attract disaffected members from other parties. With his entry into the ADC, Amaechi is positioning himself as a central figure in the state's political future, and his influence is expected to shape the dynamics of the 2027 elections.
