Tinubu: Nigeria’s History Wouldn’t Be Complete If I Had Lost 2023 Election

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s political history would have remained incomplete if he had lost the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking during the 8th Day Fidau prayers held in honour of the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Tinubu paid glowing tributes to the revered monarch, describing him as a key pillar in his political journey.
“Our history would not have been completed, carefully and richly, if I failed the last election,” President Tinubu said solemnly at the ceremony in Ijebu Ode. “I was successful because of your support and the blessing of late Awujale. I came to him, he blessed me. He said, ‘you will win that election and you will win one more time. Go ahead.’”
Reflecting on the monarch’s role, Tinubu credited Oba Adetona for his unwavering support, foresight, and courage, particularly in the face of Nigeria’s democratic struggles.
“Today, he is no more. He is gone. But his words, his vision, his encouragement live on,” Tinubu added.
The president further lauded the late monarch’s commitment to justice and democracy, describing him as a steadfast supporter of the June 12 struggle and a father figure who remained principled in his advocacy for a better Nigeria.
Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for over six decades, passed away at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, wisdom, and development-oriented leadership in Ijebuland and beyond.
The Fidau prayer, which drew dignitaries from across the country, served as a moment of national reflection on the monarch’s impact and the values he championed throughout his reign.
