Osun PDP Endorses Tinubu for 2027 as Governor Adeleke Reaffirms Loyalty to Party

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections. This decision was made during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday at the Government House in Osogbo and presided over by Governor Ademola Adeleke. The endorsement was accompanied by a firm declaration from Governor Adeleke that he remains a loyal member of the PDP, dispelling speculation about a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The meeting brought together top party figures including Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senator Lere Oyewumi, and other senior party leaders. A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting stated that the Osun PDP endorsed President Tinubu for a second term as “a son of the soil” and called on Governor Adeleke to seek re-election in 2026 under the PDP banner. The party reaffirmed its confidence in Adeleke’s leadership and expressed gratitude for what it described as Tinubu’s reforms and national leadership. Governor Adeleke, while addressing the gathering, thanked stakeholders for their support and clarified his position within the PDP. “I am not leaving the PDP. I am a proud member of this party and I will continue to serve our people faithfully under its platform,” he said. The endorsement of President Tinubu by a state chapter of the opposition party has stirred political reactions across the country, with analysts viewing it as a significant shift that could influence political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections. Governor Adeleke also praised President Tinubu’s administration for taking bold steps in addressing economic and security challenges. The meeting concluded with renewed commitments to unity within the party, with stakeholders promising to work together for the continued development of Osun State and the stability of the PDP.
