African Democratic Congress Slams Government Over Rebased GDP Figures

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized the recent celebration of Nigeria’s rebased Gross Domestic Product (GDP), describing it as “economic cosmetics” that do not translate to improved living conditions for ordinary citizens.

According to the party, the rebased GDP figures are a mere statistical exercise that fails to address the deep-rooted challenges plaguing the economy.

The ADC expressed concerns that despite the GDP growth, millions of Nigerians are struggling with record food inflation, poverty, and crumbling infrastructure. The party questioned the government’s priorities, noting that the current administration has failed to demonstrate fiscal discipline, as evidenced by bloated budgets and wasteful spending.

The party argued that genuine economic growth should positively impact the lives of ordinary citizens, but the current GDP growth has not been felt by Nigerians. According to the ADC, the government’s reliance on statistical manipulation rather than policy substance has resulted in a structurally weak economy unable to compete or lift millions out of poverty.

The ADC called for real economic reform, emphasizing the need for fiscal discipline, increased productivity, and improved infrastructure. The party criticized the government’s attempt to present the rebased GDP figures as evidence of national prosperity, describing it as “deception.”

The ADC concluded that Nigerians are not fooled by the government’s attempts to manipulate the economy through statistical exercises.

According to the party, the government’s failure to address the real issues affecting Nigerians, such as insecurity, poverty, and lack of access to basic amenities, has resulted in widespread suffering.
