Ganduje Not Ill, in London for Official Engagements, Family, Allies Refute Health Rumours

Contrary to widespread speculation on social media, former Kano State Governor and immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is not ill but currently in London on official and personal engagements, his family and close associates have confirmed.
The clarification followed a wave of online reports claiming that Ganduje had been hospitalised in London for a critical medical condition.
These rumours gained traction over the weekend, sparking concern and political commentary about the former governor’s health and public role.
Responding to the reports, Ganduje’s son, Muhammad Ganduje, debunked the claims, describing them as baseless and mischievous.
In a statement, he affirmed that his father is in good health and travelled abroad for official purposes. “There is absolutely no truth in the claims that my father is ill or hospitalised. He is fine and going about his scheduled activities in London,” Muhammad stated.
Supporting this stance, Ganduje’s Chief of Staff, Mohammed Garba, also dismissed the health scare, noting that while the former governor, like many of his age, may experience minor age-related health checks, there is no cause for alarm.
Garba confirmed that Ganduje is active, in regular contact with his team, and remains fully engaged in his responsibilities.
The speculation surrounding Ganduje’s health gained attention partly due to his noticeable absence during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent condolence visit to Kano following the death of the late Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s uncle.
Critics were quick to suggest that the absence signalled a possible health emergency. However, sources close to Ganduje clarified that his London trip had been scheduled well in advance, and his absence from Kano was not related to any medical crisis.
Ganduje’s recent resignation as APC National Chairman had also stirred conversations, with some citing health concerns as a factor. Yet, his subsequent appointment as Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) indicated his continued active role in public service.
Amid ongoing political developments in the APC and Kano State, Ganduje’s associates believe the health rumours are part of a targeted campaign to create public doubt about his capacity and influence.
They urged the public to disregard such narratives and rely only on verified information.
As of now, Ganduje remains abroad, with his team assuring the public that he is well and will return to the country in due course to resume his duties.
