‎Kebbi Police Launch Investigation into Alleged Sexual Abuse of Minor with Special Needs

‎Authorities in Kebbi State have arrested 11 individuals in connection with the alleged sexual exploitation of a 13-year-old girl living with a mental health condition in Tungar Giwa village, Shanga Local Government Area.

‎The police say the suspects took advantage of the girl’s vulnerable state, allegedly luring her with small amounts of money before subjecting her to repeated abuse.

‎The matter came to light following the birth of a baby boy by the survivor on July 8, 2025.

‎According to a statement issued on Saturday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, the arrest was made after officers in the Shanga Division received credible intelligence and launched an investigation.

‎“Preliminary findings suggest that the victim was exploited over time. The command is treating this case with the urgency and seriousness it deserves,” Abubakar said.

‎He added that the suspects have reportedly made confessional statements and are currently in custody while two others remain at large. The Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to intensify efforts in ensuring that all individuals connected to the case are brought to justice.

The police have assured the public of their commitment to justice and have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may place children or vulnerable individuals at risk.
