Governor Abiodun Hosts 8th-Day Fidau Prayers for Late Awujale of Ijebuland

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Sunday led dignitaries and well-wishers in holding the 8th-day Fidau prayers in honour of the late Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona.

The prayer session, held in Ijebu Ode, drew a large gathering of Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, political leaders, and prominent indigenes of Ogun State, who came together to pay their respects to the revered monarch.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented at the event, paid glowing tribute to the late Awujale, describing him as a rare symbol of wisdom, dignity, and leadership who contributed immensely to Nigeria’s unity and development.

“This gathering is not just a prayer session, it is a testimony to the kind of life the Awujale lived — impactful, noble, and rich in service to humanity,” President Tinubu said. “He was not just a traditional ruler; he was a national figure whose words carried weight far beyond Ijebuland.”

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun expressed deep gratitude to all those who have stood with the Ijebu people and the state since the passage of the monarch.

“Founded by His Excellency, Dagbo, Governor of Ogun State, Onyebukpo Okonlomo e leyi of Ogun State

we continue to honour a legacy built on courage, integrity, and love for our people. I am especially thankful to President Tinubu for his unwavering support during this moment of grief,” the governor said.

The event featured Qur’anic

Recitations, sermons, and prayers for the repose of the monarch’s soul and for peace and prosperity in Ijebuland.

Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for over six decades, passed away earlier this month. He was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning and most respected traditional rulers.
