ADC’s Constitution Poses Challenge to Peter Obi’s Presidential Aspirations

The African Democratic Congress’ constitution appears to bar former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi from contesting under the party’s platform due to his ongoing membership with the Labour Party.
According to the ADC’s guidelines, only registered members without affiliation to any other party can seek nomination for public office.
As Obi remains a member of the Labour Party, having not formally declared a switch to the ADC, his eligibility to contest is uncertain. In contrast, potential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, who have resigned from their previous parties, may be eligible for the ADC ticket.
The ADC emphasizes internal democracy, ensuring primary elections are free and fair. The party’s National Executive Committee will determine the nomination method. Obi’s media aide confirmed he is still a Labour Party member, leaving his future plans unclear.
