“You can’t Neglect the North and Buy it Back, ADC Blasts Tinubu”
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of attempting to placate Northern Nigerians with last-minute political appointments, following what the party described as more than two years of calculated neglect and marginalisation.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC condemned the President’s recent appointment spree as “political panic management” rather than a genuine commitment to national inclusion.
“You cannot marginalise a region for over twenty-five months and expect applause because you suddenly remembered on the twenty-sixth month that Nigeria is bigger than Lagos State,” the statement read.
The party said it viewed the recent flurry of appointments as a desperate move by the Tinubu administration to regain the trust of Northern Nigerians, especially in light of growing dissatisfaction across the region and the rising popularity of emerging opposition coalitions.
“For over a year, this government turned a blind eye as bandits terrorised villages in the North, as our farmers abandoned their land, and as rural economies crumbled under the weight of poorly thought-out fuel subsidy removal,” Abdullahi added.
The ADC further alleged that since the inception of Tinubu’s presidency, critical federal decisions had been taken without proper Northern representation, thereby deepening regional resentment and eroding national unity.
“Now, under the rising heat of public discontent, and with the emergence of a formidable opposition coalition gaining traction in the North and across the country, President Tinubu suddenly remembers that there are Nigerians to appoint into positions outside his Lagos,” the statement said.
The ADC urged Nigerians to look beyond superficial political gestures and demand substantive governance reforms that address insecurity, economic hardship, and the equitable distribution of power.
The Presidency has yet to respond to the ADC’s remarks as of the time of filing this report.
