Senator Oluwole Fadeyi Dumps PDP Over Prolonged Party Crisis

Senator Oluwole Fadeyi, the lawmaker representing Osun Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has officially announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing longstanding internal divisions and unending legal wranglings within the party.

In a letter dated June 12, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 3 in Oke-Ejigbo, Ila-Orangun Local Government Area of Osun State, Senator Fadeyi said his resignation takes immediate effect.

He attributed his decision to what he described as “irreconcilable differences and irreparable division” within the party, which he said have persisted for over three years.

“These have emerged and led to court cases and counter court cases in the last three years, which has created factions in the party at the national level,” the senator stated in the letter, expressing disappointment over the party’s inability to resolve its internal crisis.

Senator Fadeyi’s resignation comes amid growing discontent among several PDP stakeholders, especially in Osun State, where intra-party rivalries and leadership tussles have deepened.

The senator noted that his decision followed extensive consultation with key political associates, family members, and friends. “This is not a decision I arrived at hastily,” he added, emphasizing that he had hoped for a resolution that never materialized.

Although he did not disclose his next political move, sources close to the senator hint at growing interest from other parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), who may seek to woo the influential Osun lawmaker ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The resignation letter was also copied to the PDP National Chairman, the Osun State PDP Chairman, and the party chairman in Ila-Orangun LGA, signaling the senator’s total withdrawal from party activities at all levels.

Senator Fadeyi’s exit marks yet another blow to the PDP’s cohesion in the Southwest region, coming at a time when the party is struggling to rebuild its national structure and reconcile warring factions.

As of the time of this report, the PDP leadership in Osun State has yet to issue an official response to the senator’s resignation.
