Peter Obi’s Birthday Celebration Shelved in Kaduna Over Security Concerns

The Kaduna State chapter of the Obidient Movement has called off its planned events to mark former presidential candidate Peter Obi’s 64th birthday.
The decision follows intense scrutiny from security agencies, including the police and Department of State Services, which expressed concerns about potential disruptions to law and order.
According to reports, security officials met with the movement’s leaders, advising against the event due to scheduled primary elections for by-elections on the same day.
Despite the Obidient Movement’s proposal to modify the event into visits to hospitals, IDP camps, and prisons, security agencies rejected the alternative due to lack of prior notification.
In a statement, the movement’s coordinator, Yusuf Danbaki, cited the need to prioritize peace and avoid breakdown of law and order. “Considering the interest of our principal and the need to preserve peace in Kaduna on this important day, we have decided to suspend the programme,” Danbaki said.
The Obidient Movement has urged its members to remain indoors, pray for Peter Obi, and pray for Nigeria’s peace. They believe the situation might be connected to attempts to silence opposition voices due to Obi’s rising popularity.
However, they emphasized that Obi’s commitment to peace and order takes precedence.
