2027: Southwest SDP Dissociates from Coalition

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) of the Southwest region has officially disassociated itself from the coalition of opposition parties, expressing its intention to formulate a strategy aimed at displacing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
This announcement was made during the SDP’s Southwest stakeholders’ meeting, which convened on Saturday at the party’s secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Addressing the assembly, Femi Olaniyi, popularly known as Ferrari and the Chairman of Chairmen across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, remarked, “We deliberated upon the challenges, advancements, and the coalition during our meeting.”
“We have observed the unfolding events within our party. Thus, it is imperative to inform our members, particularly our stakeholders in the region.”
He asserted, “In the six states of Ondo, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, and Oyo, respectively, we have posed numerous inquiries concerning this purported coalition, and we have summoned our members to apprise them of our decision not to partake in any coalition at present. We have conveyed to them that no segment of the SDP in the region will affiliate with the coalition.”
“No one can make any decisions regarding this coalition without the directive from our National Working Committee (NWC).”
“Therefore, we are awaiting our NWC to establish its stance and all matters pertaining to this coalition. As it stands, there is no coalition within the SDP.”
Addressing concerns about the myriad challenges confronting party members, he assured them that “the NWC has pledged to guide us and support each state with membership cards, registration, and other necessities at the appropriate time.”
He affirmed that there is unity among the leaders and stakeholders in the region, stating, “In 2027, we shall liberate Nigeria from the current administration, establish a formidable government, and present all Nigerians with genuine democracy.”
He stated, “We are here to address certain issues. We resolved matters and engaged in dialogue for the advancement of our party, SDP.
The paramount topic discussed was how we can remain unified and speak with one voice to propel the party forward in the region.
Hence, SDP as a political entity has no plans to join the so-called coalition.”
Distinguished attendees at the meeting included Hon. Okunlade Michael (Oyo), Barrister Gbenga Akinbuli (Ondo), Otunba Yinka Ola-Williams (Ogun), Alhaji Yinus Gbadamosi (Osun), Ayodele Bamikole (Ekiti), the Deputy National Woman Leader of SDP, Hon. Bosede Mercy Ilesanmi, a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Babatunde Omotayo, among others.
