Jibril Dismisses Claims that Buhari’s Followers Feel Orphaned in APC

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has dismissed claims that loyalists of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari feel politically orphaned within the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is now the undisputed leader of the party.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) Special Session chaired by President Tinubu on Thursday, Barau emphasized that the APC remains firmly united under Tinubu’s leadership and legacy.
“That’s not true. We have a great leader, President Bola Tinubu,” Senator Jibrin asserted. “Even when God made Buhari president, he worked hand-in-hand with Tinubu.”
The Kano-born lawmaker argued that Tinubu has long been the intellectual architect and political engine behind the APC’s rise, even before Buhari’s presidency.
According to him, the formation of the APC was largely driven by Tinubu’s strategic vision, which brought together four major opposition groups — the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and a faction of the New PDP.
“It was Bola Tinubu who came up with the idea of forming the APC, and it was fate that Buhari became president first,” Barau said.
“The current president was the one who arranged everything. So when people say there’s no leader, that’s just opposition talk, and it’s not true,” he added.
Barau’s comments come amidst internal and external political commentary surrounding succession battles, ideological shifts, and factional divisions within the APC in the wake of Buhari’s recent passing.
Some political analysts and Buhari-era loyalists have expressed concern over a perceived loss of direction within the party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
However, the Deputy Senate President insists that the APC is not leaderless and that President Tinubu’s role is both historic and current in ensuring continuity and political cohesion.
