Yusuf Buhari Expresses Family’s Gratitude at FEC Over Late President Muhammadu Buhari’s State Burial

Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed the appreciation of the Buhari family to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for the support and honour extended to their family following the death of the former leader. Speaking during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in Abuja, Yusuf thanked President Tinubu, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and his wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima, for what he described as “outstanding support” rendered to the family from the time Tinubu took office until President Buhari’s peaceful passing on Sunday, 13th July 2025. “It has shown that he was regarded far more than a politician, but as a friend and a father,” Yusuf said in his remarks. He extended the family’s gratitude to members of the Federal Executive Council for their care and for the dignified state burial conducted in honour of the late President. He also thanked the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and all members of the National Assembly for honouring the memory of their late father. Yusuf Buhari acknowledged the contributions of the Attorney General of the Federation, members of the judiciary, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Nigerian High Commission in London. He also expressed appreciation to the governors of Katsina and Borno States, alongside former colleagues and close associates of the late President, for standing with the family during their time of mourning. He made special mention of the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, and heads of security and law enforcement agencies, praising their solidarity and for the befitting military burial conducted. He described members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria as the late President’s “first and primary constituents.” Yusuf Buhari also extended gratitude to members of the diplomatic corps, traditional and religious leaders, political associates, the media, friends, and Nigerians at home and abroad for the outpouring of condolences, visits, prayers, and messages following the passing of the former President. “Your visits, calls, and prayers symbolise the great honour to the memory of our late father, and we are sincerely grateful for all the support and solidarity extended to the family,” he said. He concluded by offering prayers for the continued guidance and protection of President Tinubu and the nation, saying, “Long live Mr. President, and long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
