Akpabio Heads NASS Condolence Delegation to Radda Over Buhari’s Death

A high-level delegation from the National Assembly, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday visited Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda to condole with him and the people of Katsina over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The visit, which took place at the Katsina Government House in Daura, formed part of the national mourning following Buhari’s death on Saturday, July 13.
The late former President was buried on Tuesday, July 15, in his hometown of Daura in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Senate President was accompanied by prominent lawmakers including Senator Tahir Munguno (Chief Whip), Senator Ali Ndume, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Senator Benson Agadaga, Senator Munir, Senator Sani Zangon Daura Jr., and Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Akpabio described Buhari as “a patriot, a man of integrity, and a shining light whose leadership and character impacted generations.”
Governor Radda, who received the delegation alongside members of his cabinet, thanked the National Assembly for their visit and reflected emotionally on his personal relationship with the late former President.
He recalled visiting Buhari every two to three weeks after his retirement, describing him as a father figure who offered guidance, support, and wisdom even after leaving office.
“Buhari often said he felt more at peace after leaving office. He was proud of the bold steps being taken by President Bola Tinubu, especially on reforms like the removal of fuel subsidies, which he believed were necessary but difficult,” Radda said.
The NASS delegation also joined family members, clerics, and political leaders at the fidau prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul. Prayers were offered for the peace of the nation and strength for the former President’s family.
Buhari, Nigeria’s former Head of State (1983–1985) and democratically elected President (2015–2023), was widely seen as a symbol of discipline, anti-corruption, and national unity. His death has drawn tributes from across Nigeria and around the world.
The National Assembly delegation urged Nigerians to uphold the values Buhari lived by honesty, courage, and love for country and to rally behind the current administration to consolidate the gains of democracy.
