NIS Modernises, Digitises Platform for Expatriate Permits, as Physical Forms End August 1

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the launch of a new digital platform for the processing of the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC), marking a major shift in the country’s immigration system towards full digitisation.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the Service Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, the platform will become operational from August 1, 2025.

From that date, all applications for CERPAC must be submitted exclusively through the new online portal.

Akinlabi said the move is in line with the Federal Government’s ongoing reform of the NIS to improve transparency, efficiency, and accessibility.

He noted that the digital platform will eliminate the use of physical application forms, streamlining the application process for both individuals and corporate entities handling immigration responsibilities on behalf of expatriates.

“All CERPAC applications after July 31 must be submitted solely through the online portal,” he said, adding that applicants who have already made payments but are yet to submit their physical forms should do so before the deadline to avoid invalidation.

He further advised companies and individuals with pending submissions to complete them within the stipulated timeframe, warning that any form not submitted by July 31 will be considered void.

The NIS spokesman emphasised that all enquiries and related correspondence should be directed to the Service via the Office of the Public Relations Officer.

The digital transition, he added, reaffirms the NIS’s commitment to delivering smarter, more efficient, and globally compliant immigration services.

This upgrade is seen as a key part of Nigeria’s broader public sector digital transformation agenda, aimed at reducing bureaucracy and improving service delivery across ministries and agencies.
