Lagos PDP Council Chairmen Reject Council Poll Results, Vow Legal Battle Over Alleged Electoral Fraud

The Forum of Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Local Government Chairmen has declared Saturday’s local council elections a “sham,” vowing to contest the outcome in court over what it described as a coordinated subversion of the people’s will.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, Forum Chairman Adegboyega Adegbesan, who also leads the PDP in Oshodi-Isolo LGA, said the opposition party would not recognise the election results or those declared winners, citing widespread irregularities and violence.

‎“What occurred on Saturday was not an election but a brazen conspiracy against the electorate,” Adegbesan stated at the party’s secretariat in Lagos Mainland.

‎He alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in collaboration with the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), orchestrated voter suppression, ballot snatching, and falsification of results across PDP strongholds.

‎He said the PDP had compiled video footage, witness testimonies, and other evidence to challenge the results in court, asserting that the party would fight to reclaim its “stolen mandate.”

‎According to the forum, polling units were attacked by armed thugs, while pre-thumb printed ballots were openly stuffed into boxes in the presence of silent or complicit electoral officials and security personnel.

‎“In some LGAs, our agents were beaten and driven out of collation centres. In others, the votes announced far exceeded the number of registered voters,” Adegbesan said.

He added that LASIEC had compromised its integrity and could no longer function as an impartial electoral umpire, calling for urgent reforms to safeguard local democracy.

‎The forum called on the National Assembly to scrap state electoral commissions and legislate for a more transparent electoral process at the grassroots level.

‎Alimosho PDP chairman Isiaka Shodiya supported the call, insisting state electoral commissions be abolished to protect grassroots democracy from political interference.

Similarly, Alade Yusuf, PDP councillorship candidate for Ward F in Yaba LCDA, alleged that no proper collation occurred before results were announced in his ward and demanded a fresh election under proper security and civil society supervision.

‎The PDP’s protest comes after LASIEC announced that the APC secured all 57 chairmanship seats and won 375 out of 376 councillorship positions in the July 12 poll.
