Kaduna NURTW Urges FG to Expedite Road Construction to Curb Accidents

The Kaduna State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers has called on the Federal Government to fast-track the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the state to prevent further loss of lives and property.

According to Alhaji Hassan Ibrahim, the State Secretary of the union, the slow pace of construction on major roads, including the Abuja-Kaduna highway and the Western bypass in Kaduna, has resulted in recurring road crashes and gridlocks.

Ibrahim lamented that the poor state of the roads has forced some members of the union to relocate to other areas, such as Zuba-Abuja road, due to the unbearable conditions.

He expressed concern over the high volume of vehicles that ply these roads and the resulting accidents, which often lead to loss of lives and property.

The union’s appeal comes on the heels of a recent gridlock on the Jere-Kaduna highway, which lasted for over four hours. Ibrahim urged the Federal Government to put pressure on the construction companies to complete the projects on time, considering the importance of these roads to the nation’s economy.

In a separate development, Ibrahim commended Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for centralizing all motor parks within Kaduna, which has improved security and revenue generation.

He also praised the governor’s initiative in bringing sanity to the state’s highways, making it possible for travelers to move freely without fear.

Ibrahim assured the state government and security agencies of the union’s continued cooperation and urged members of the public to patronize designated motor parks and follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents.
