‎FCT Police Reject ₦1.5 Million Bribe, Arrest Man Attempting to Secure Release of Kidnap Suspect

Officers of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have been commended for their integrity after rejecting a ₦1.5 million bribe aimed at obstructing an ongoing kidnapping investigation.

‎The police, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrest of a 40-year-old man, Yahaya Saleh, who attempted to bribe officers in a desperate move to free a detained suspect linked to a kidnapping ring.

‎According to the statement, the attempt was thwarted by the Command’s elite Scorpion Squad, which is currently handling the investigation into the syndicate believed to be operating across Abuja and surrounding areas.

‎”Saleh approached the investigators with the cash inducement, hoping to manipulate the outcome of the case and facilitate the illegal release of one of the suspects in custody,” Adeh said. “However, the officers maintained professionalism and refused the offer, leading to his immediate arrest and the commencement of legal action against him.”

‎The statement further noted that investigations are still ongoing, as efforts continue to uncover other individuals connected to the syndicate.

‎The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, praised the officers for upholding ethical standards and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to justice.

‎”This incident demonstrates our zero-tolerance stance on corruption,” the Commissioner said. “The public can rest assured that we will not allow any form of interference in the pursuit of justice.”
