Political Storm in Kaduna as ADC Plots Major 2027 Upset

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), backed by a coalition of opposition parties in Kaduna State, has pledged to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

The coalition, which includes defectors and members from the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP), made the declaration during a press briefing held in Kaduna.

Spokesman of the group and former APC member, Salihu Mohammed Lukman, said the alliance is working to build a formidable political front under the ADC platform to challenge the APC’s dominance in both Kaduna State and across the country.

Lukman revealed that the movement has received quiet backing from influential political figures, including former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. He also confirmed that top ADC leaders in the state—Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, Patrick Didam, and Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman—are actively coordinating efforts with the coalition to mobilise grassroots support.

Although absent from the event, several prominent politicians were named as supporters of the new alliance, including former Minister Senator Nenadi Usman, Labour Party National Chairman Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, and businessman Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati. Lukman said their absence was due to travel engagements but reaffirmed their commitment to the cause.

The national unveiling of the coalition took place in Abuja on July 2, 2025, where ADC was formally adopted as the central platform. Since then, strategic consultations have begun across the 23 local government areas and 255 wards of Kaduna State to restructure and strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
Lukman emphasised that the coalition is focused on promoting inclusive politics, tolerance, and unity in a state historically affected by political and ethnic divisions.

He warned against turning the party into a vehicle for personal ambition or allowing it to fall into the hands of political proxies. According to him, the priority is to build a party grounded in collective leadership, capable of confronting the real issues facing the people of Kaduna and Nigeria as a whole.

Efforts are currently underway to conclude negotiations over the national interim leadership of the ADC, after which formal guidelines for party reorganisation at all levels will be released. Lukman concluded by stressing that unity among all opposition parties is essential in the broader mission to challenge the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of 2027.
