Edo Suspends Launch of State Busline in Honour of Late President Buhari

The Edo State Government has suspended the Inauguration of 102 ultra-modern buses under its newly revamped New Edo line Mass Transit Scheme, in deference to the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
Governor Monday Okpebholo announced the decision in a statement on Monday, describing the move as a gesture of national mourning and respect for the legacy of the late elder statesman.
“President Muhammadu Buhari was a towering figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey and governance history,” the Governor said. “As a people, we must reflect this period of national loss with appropriate solemnity.
Therefore, we have decided to postpone the unveiling of the Edo line buses in honour of his memory.”
The statement, signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, noted that the event originally scheduled as a public rollout of the state’s renewed mass transit initiative would have been “insensitive” in light of the somber national mood.
Governor Okpebholo expressed condolences to the late president’s family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians mourning the loss.
He also apologised for the inconvenience the postponement may cause to guests and stakeholders who had anticipated the event, assuring that a new date would be communicated soon.
Despite the delay, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transforming public transportation in Edo. He assured residents that the Edo line buses will begin operation shortly to improve intra-city mobility and ease commuting challenges across the state.
