Supporters of APC, PDP, NNPP Defect to ADC in Katsina

On Sunday, hundreds of advocates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Katsina officially aligned themselves with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Mustapha Inuwa, the coalition’s leader in the state.
Membership cards were distributed to the defectors, encompassing all genders and originating from the 34 Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
Their defection was declared during the unveiling of the party’s Katsina State chapter.
At the ceremony held at the Continental Event Center, Katsina, Lawal Batagarawa, the state’s National representative of the National Political Coalition Group, lamented the alarming surge in insecurity, poverty, inflation, and the Naira’s depreciation.
Batagarawa highlighted the collapse of numerous industries since the inception of Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2023.
He emphasized the necessity for unity among citizens, party members, and supporters, expressing confidence that the party will triumph in combating terrorism, banditry, poverty, and illiteracy in the nation.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Katsina State Chapter of the ADC, Usman Musa Wamba, expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the upcoming 2027 general elections. He also appealed for increased support from the electorate, particularly the youth, to ensure they reap the benefits of democracy.
One of the defectors, Aliyu Saulawa, formerly an APC member and Director of Media for the Buhari Campaign Organisation, as well as the former National Coordinator of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Movement in Nigeria, asserted that the APC had failed dismally in fulfilling its campaign promises, especially in the North. He claimed that the party had not achieved even one percent of its electoral pledges.
“Without security, livelihood is impossible. In the Northwest, we are predominantly peasant farmers and merchants. Without security, we lack everything, including a functioning educational system. I can no longer remain in the APC,” he declared.
In a related development, the Katsina State Chapter of the PDP, led by the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Yakubu Lado, held an expanded caucus meeting titled “Let’s Make Katsina State Work Again” at the State PDP Headquarters, Katsina. Lado explained that the meeting aimed to dispel rumors of the PDP’s demise in Katsina State.
He portrayed the departure of the party’s former leader as a bad omen in the 2023 general elections.
“The PDP’s structure remains robust in Katsina State. We have a message for you to convey to your constituencies. The former leader’s presence in Katsina contributed to our defeat in the 2023 General Elections because many were dissatisfied with his conduct. The PDP’s legacy is well-known,” Lado remarked.
