Barely 24 Hours After Buhari’s Death, Nephew, Mamman Daura Hospitalized in London

Mamman Daura, the nephew of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, has been hospitalized in London.
Daura, a respected former newspaper editor and influential political figure, is said to be recuperating under medical care. The news of his hospitalization comes as a shock to many, given his significant role in Nigerian politics and close relationship with Buhari.
Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Daura at the London hospital while on a trip to London to coordinate the repatriation of Buhari’s remains to Nigeria. Shettima was accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, and Deputy Chief of Staff Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.
As Buhari’s close confidant and influential member of the “Buhari cabal,” Daura played a significant role in shaping key policy directions during Buhari’s tenure.
His decades-long career spans journalism, public service, and involvement in the Kaduna Mafia, a network of northern intellectuals, military officers, and businessmen who shaped Nigeria’s political evolution.
The Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, has shown support for Daura during this challenging time.
The repatriation process for Buhari’s remains is ongoing, with the late president expected to be buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday under Islamic rites.
