9 Killed, 30 Injured in Massachusetts Assisted House Midnight Inferno

A devastating fire ripped through the Gabriel House assisted-living facility in Fall River, Massachusetts, on Sunday night, claiming nine lives and injuring over 30 residents.

The blaze prompted a massive rescue effort, with firefighters responding to the scene shortly before 10 pm local time to find heavy smoke and flames engulfing the front of the building.

Residents were seen hanging out of windows, shouting for help as firefighters worked tirelessly to rescue those trapped inside. Approximately 70 people lived in the building, and while many were rescued, several were pronounced dead at the scene.

Others were rushed to area hospitals in varying conditions, with one person remaining in critical condition.

The heroism of the Fall River Police Department and firefighters was evident, as officers entered the smoke-filled facility, breaking down doors and escorting residents to safety. A dozen non-ambulatory residents were physically carried out by officers, undoubtedly saving many lives.

Five firefighters were injured during the rescue operation but have since been released from the hospital. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by state and local officials, who are working to determine the origin of the blaze. A reunification center has been set up at St. Anne’s Hospital for families seeking information about their loved ones.

The tragedy has left the community in shock, with Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon describing it as “an unspeakable tragedy.”

The investigation into the fire’s cause is ongoing, and officials are working to confirm the death toll and provide support to affected families.
