Senator Dickson Backs Natasha’s Senate Recall
The Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has thrown his weight behind the return of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Senate, following a Federal High Court order mandating her reinstatement.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended by the Senate on March 6 after a dramatic confrontation over an alleged targeted seating arrangement. She claimed the changes were part of a broader campaign of intimidation against her, allegedly orchestrated by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The matter escalated further when the embattled senator appeared on national television, accusing Akpabio of retaliating against her for rejecting what she described as inappropriate advances. Akpabio has since denied the allegations, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
In a ruling on July 4, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja declared the suspension unlawful and ordered the immediate reinstatement of Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Reacting to the development, Senator Dickson told reporters that he had never supported the suspension and believes her return is vital for the integrity of democratic representation.
“I have always believed that every senator has a right to speak and be heard, regardless of gender or region. I look forward to seeing Senator Natasha back on the floor doing what she was elected to do,” Dickson said.
With mounting support and the court ruling in her favor, Akpoti-Uduaghan is expected to resume her legislative duties in the coming days.
