Police Arrest 50-Year-Old Bandit, Two Informants, Others in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old notorious bandit, two suspected informants, a gun runner, and five other individuals in a series of coordinated security operations across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the arrests, describing them as a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against banditry and insecurity in Zamfara.

The arrested bandit, identified as Ibrahim Mohammed from Maru Local Government Area, was picked up alongside his alleged accomplices following actionable intelligence provided by local residents.

The police recovered several weapons during the operation, including AK-47 rifles, a stolen ATM card, Indian hemp leaves, and a Toyota Corolla vehicle believed to have been used in criminal activities.

These arrests come amid continued attacks by bandit groups in parts of Zamfara. In a separate incident, gunmen ambushed a commercial vehicle along the Kucheri–Wanzamai road in Tsafe Local Government Area, killing six passengers, mostly women and children, and abducting several others.

The police say investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court once preliminary processes are concluded.

DSP Yazid reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations and urged citizens to continue cooperating with security agencies to ensure lasting peace in the region.

Zamfara State remains one of the epicentres of Nigeria’s banditry crisis, with security agencies battling to dismantle armed groups responsible for killings, kidnappings, and the displacement of thousands of residents.
