Kano Government Approves Over ₦69 Billion for Infrastructure, Education, Social Services

Kano State Government has approved over ₦69 billion for the execution of key developmental projects across infrastructure, education, and social services. The decision was reached at the 29th Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye, confirmed the approval while addressing journalists shortly after the meeting. According to the breakdown, over ₦36 billion will go into infrastructure-related projects. ₦24.7 billion was approved for the expansion of Katsina Road and the construction of five pedestrian bridges to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety. An additional ₦7.8 billion was set aside for the rehabilitation of key roads and flyovers, including RMK Flyover, IBB Road, and Kofar Mazugal Junction. Furthermore, ₦3.8 billion will be used to construct 10 new concrete pedestrian bridges across Kano metropolis. The education sector will receive a significant portion of the funding, with ₦3 billion allocated for the renovation of 13 previously closed boarding secondary schools. Among the institutions listed for upgrade are Government Technical Colleges in Dambatta and Ungogo, with both projects receiving over ₦1.2 billion. ₦190 million was also approved for the establishment of a new primary school in Gishiri-Wuya, Warawa Local Government Area, while ₦158 million and ₦349 million will go toward the refurbishment of bilingual boys’ and girls’ schools in Kwankwaso respectively. The health sector is set to benefit from the allocation of ₦180 million as Kano’s counterpart funding for the Free Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health programme. Additionally, ₦240 million was approved for the procurement of a Toyota Coaster bus for the School of Health Technology, Bebeji. The government also earmarked ₦107 million for operational support at the Kano Ultra-Modern Specialist Hospital and ₦344 million to finance routine immunisation for the second quarter of 2025. Governor Yusuf stated that the approvals reflect his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and efficient public service delivery. He reiterated his resolve to rebuild Kano with a focus on infrastructural renewal, quality education, and access to healthcare.
